SAG Awards

While I was in line for food at the Thursday Night party, I recognized one of the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award Winners. I said, "I know you!" and congratulated him on his achievement. He smiled back and I could see him stand just a little taller.

This year the SAG Awards were held Wednesday afternoon, rather than the standard Thursday. Despite concerns, the ceremony ended in plenty of time for the 7:05 start of the Padres baseball game.

The ceremony is an opportunity for Jack Dangermond to personally congratulate and thank users for their hard work and contributions to their communities. After a brief presentation, winners wait in line to have their photos taken with Jack and get their moment in the spotlight.

With nearly 200 winners, the wait for your photo can take a while. When one winner was ready for his photo and met Jack he said, "It's like waiting to see Santa Claus." Jack laughed and replied, "Okay, I'm Santa Claus." This was just one great moment among hundreds.

The work, creativity to solve problems, and dedication these awards represent go beyond description. Except to say, thanks and congrats!
